We took a Navajo-guided tour of the famous slot canyon on the Navajo Reservation near Page, Arizona. A slot canyon is a narrow canyon, formed by the wear of water rushing through rock. The tour started with a very "jaunty" trek through very sandy desert terrain in an off-road vehicle. The kids laughed the whole time, saying "Bouncy, BOUNCY! WOOOO!" as we were jostled along. Our guide, Vera, was an excellent driver.
On arrival, the canyon looked like a big vertical crack in the rock. Once inside, we were able to walk through the canyon (it was 3 to 15 feet wide throughout) and look upwards to see beautiful rays of light cascading down into the canyon.

At the end of the walk through the canyon, our guide played a traditional Navajo piece on the flute.
