The Grand Canyon Railroad trip started with a comedy gunfight at the depot.
Then we boarded the train and took about two hours to travel the 60 miles over flat ranch land to the canyon. On the train, an attendant told us about the history and geology of the area. We were also visited by a singing banjo player (who was quite entertaining!).
On arrival, we walked along the canyon rim to several of the lookouts before checking in to the Thunderbird Lodge. There was a large elk with fuzzy antlers walking right near the hotel (didn't get a picture because we were carrying bags and holding the girls' hands). We had dinner at the Bright Angel Restaurant. Then we went for a walk to see more of the canyon. While we were out walking, we had a very close encounter with a mule deer.
