Fireworks

After a long day of exploring Glacier National Park, we headed to the town of Whitefish to see the fireworks show. Since we're so far north, the fireworks didn't start until it got dark at 10:30 pm (very late for two little kids who didn't have naps!). When we got there we parked in the lot that said "Festival Parking" and after grilling hot dogs for dinner, we started walking in the general direction of the crowd.

Unfortunately, we had parked very far from the fireworks show, which was at "city beach" near the lake. We had parked at a music festival that was the same night. When we tried to walk toward city beach (getting very unhelpful directions from the locals), we ended up on a dead end street in a very upscale neighborhood. Then we came upon a vacant multi-million dollar house with a foreclosure sign... and with a raised patio that overlooked the lake... and it even had a nice flag hanging over the patio... hmmmm...

Apparently folks in Montana are *really* into their fireworks. In addition to the city show, there were mini-fireworks shows visible in all directions from 9pm until midnight... we estimated that some of the folks in neighboring yards had spent thousands of dollars on fireworks for their backyard parties.

We had a great time, and the kids held up really well despite the very long day. They were asleep within 5 minutes of getting into their car seats in the RV.
